Commonly refered to as “Slipper Orchids”, the names of all the genera in this group are derived from the Greek word pedilon, meaning “sandal” or “Slipper”. Phragmipedium are found in the New World tropics, Paphiopedilum is native to the Old World tropics, and Cypridpedium occurs on all continents in the North Temperate Zone. By far the most popular genus of this group is Paphiopedilum. Their distinctive shape spectacular colour range make them one of the cornerstones in any collection.
