At both the New Growers and the Monthly Cultural Meetings, folk happily exchange information on how to get the best results in our region as well as assisting with ‘hands on’ sessions. All growers are encouraged to bring plants for showing and to compete in friendly rivalry with those of a similar standard and level of competence.

The G.O.S. provides its members with the opportunity to learn about growing all types of orchids, to show their plants and to expand their collection, all in a socially friendly and supportive group. Informative meetings and displays of orchids are held each month.

The Ipoh Orchid Society was formed in 1996 with the aim of promoting orchid growing as a hobby and to promote eco-tourism. Besides organizing monthly shows, the society has organized several national shows and also the annually held Ipoh International Orchid Festival which started in 2001. Ipoh is the home of some of Malaysia's most respected orchid growers, whom have won a number of prizes at the International Shows.

The Orchid Societies Council of Victoria (OSCOV) was formed in April 1992 in response to the need for Victoria (Australia) to have a truly representative body to coordinate the activities of various Victorian orchid societies and to act as a forum at state level. The Council currently has 30 member societies. These societies are equal members and not merely affiliates of some other body.

The Orchid Society of Canberra was formed in late 1983 by about 20 orchid enthusiasts to exchange information and provide assistance with orchid growing in Canberra conditions. Membership now stands in excess of 100; meetings are lively and well attended. Monthly meetings feature interstate and local speakers, hints and problem discussion, an extensive library, trading table and the ever beautiful plant display and popular vote.

Presently, OSNSW has over 90 societies or clubs affiliated with it within New South Wales. OSNSW operates monthly meetings, and also its other responsibilities and administrative duties such as the judging system within the state. The Registrar of Judges, a member of the Board of Management, is responsible for the running and judging of Affiliated Societies shows and meetings. OSNSW provides a forum for discussion and cooperation amongst its Affiliated Societies.

|Sutherland Shire Orchid Society||Society||
The Society holds its meetings on the 2nd Monday evening of each month at the Auditorium of the Sutherland Uniting Church, Cnr Flora Merton Streets, Sutherland. There is usually a Novice Class, lasting for approximately half an hour before the main meeting on most evenings. Experienced growers give advice and tips to newer growers. The Society runs a sales table at most meetings, with plants, seedlings, pots, fertilizers, etc. for sale at very reasonable prices.
