First described in 1794 by Ruiz and Pavon, Masdevallia
was named after Jose Masdevall, a 16th-century botanist. Noted for
their three pronged approach to flowering, these plants are mostly cool
growers found in Mexico and south to Brazil and Bolivia. We are very
lucky in Southern Ontario to have a world class grower of these small
jewels in the person of Mario Ferussi (Marsh Hollow Orchids). Many of our images celebrate his remarkable successes.
