Dendrobium, is a large genus of tropical orchids that contains about 1200 species at present. The genus occurs in diverse habitats throughout much of south, east and southeast Asia
These orchids usually have pseudobulbs which unite in a long reedlike stem. Theys can be longer than 30 cm. These plants grow vigorously during the summer months, but require a rest period during the winter. Some species are deciduous, meaning that they drop all their leaves when dormant.
